Weld Cleaning

We remove the heat tint, slag, spatter and burrs left after welding and get your part ready for coating or straight use.

Why clean the welds?

Welding leaves heat tint, slag, spatter and burrs around the seam. They spoil the look of the part, lower the corrosion resistance of stainless steel and weaken the grip of the coating on parts that will be painted.

Depending on the material and where the part will be used, we clean the seam by brushing, grinding and surface cleaning, and dress the surface where needed.

Why clean the welds?

What a clean weld gives you

A tidy finish

A ground and cleaned seam looks neat on the visible faces of the product.

Corrosion resistance

Removing heat tint from stainless keeps its corrosion resistance.

Ready for coating

Powder coating grips better on a surface free of residue.

Safe to handle

Sharp burrs and spatter are removed, so the part is safe to handle.

All in one shop

Welding, cleaning and coating in the same shop: the part never leaves.

Weld cleaning questions

What is heat tint and does it have to be removed?

Heat tint is the yellow, brown and blue colouring that welding heat leaves around a seam on stainless steel. It spoils the look and can lower corrosion resistance, so we recommend removing it.

Is weld cleaning needed before coating?

Slag, spatter and oil residue weaken the grip of the coating. We clean the welds before powder coating so the finish lasts.

Can welds be ground flush so they don't show?

On suitable parts the seam can be ground flush with the surface. Mention it in your quote request and we will look at your part.
